Reminder – Charlie Adlard in FP Glasgow this month

A reminder for all Glasgow peeps, Charlie Adlard, the man who brings the brilliant Walking Dead comic to visual life, will be signing in our store in the city’s Buchanan Street (right by the Underground) on Thursday February 23rd from 5 to 6pm, so zombie fans, stop munching those brains and stagger your undead way down for a chance to meet him.

A reminder for your diaries – top comics artist Sean Phillips will be paying a visit to the Glasgow Forbidden Planet International on the city’s Buchanan Street (handily close to the Underground and Queen Street Station) on Wednesday 25th January (Burns Night, as it happens, bring your own haggis) from 5 to 7pm, signing copies of his very tasty and stylish-looking new creator-owned collaboration with Ed Brubaker, Fatale, which launches this month.

Seattle is the place to be this Friday – the awesomeness that is Peter Bagge will be in the Fantagraphics (1201 S. Vale Street) store Friday November 25th from 7pm – comics, signings, chat and brews will be the order of the evening, followed by decamping to next door club Mix where Bagge’s “power pop combo” Can You Imagine? will be rockin’ it. Comics, brews, music and an excuse to post up some Peter Bagge art, that sounds like a damned fine Friday night…

November is going to be a pretty busy month for some top comics events at London’s fine Gosh! Comics in their stylish new home in 1 Berwick Street, Soho, with some great comics creators, including, I am delighted to see, a slew of writers and artists from some of our favourite Indy UK comic presses – Nobrow, SelfMadeHero and Blank Slate (including a London launch and art party for the quite brilliant Nelson), lovely to see such strong support for them:

November 11th: Frederik Peeters (Blue Pills: A Positive Love Story) signing/talk/Q&A. His new book Sandcastle is out through SelfMadeHero (recently reviewed here on the blog).

November 14th: A Comica Conversation with Richard McGuire (Raw, The New Yorker, Liquid Liquid) and Steven Appleby, plus a projection of McGuire’s animated films.

November 18th: German creators Uli Oesterle and Mawil signing copies of their newly translated books from Blank Slate.

November 25th: Nelson launch party, signing and art show. Exclusive Gosh! Bookplate Edition by Frank Quitely available on the night!

November 26th: Luke Pearson signing copies of his new Hilda book from Nobrow + art show (all pieces are up and on sale now)

The Germans are coming to London

November sees a visit to Gosh! Comics in London from new Blank Slate artist Uli Oesterle and now veteran Slater Mawil, with both German comics creators coming to Gosh as part of Comica (there’s a talk afterwards too) on November 18th from 6 to 7pm. I’ve not had the pleasure of meeting Uli yet but Hector Umbra looks interesting and is on my I-want-to-read list, and I know that Mawil is a very nice chap to meet and I love his comics (most recently The Band and Home and Away). Good event for two cool European artists being published in English by one of our fine Indy presses, so please do go along and lend some support if you’re in town.

Hayley at fine London comics emporium Gosh! tells us they have the quite excellent Anders Nilsen paying them a visit on Saturday October 15th from 6 to 7pm in their shiny, new Soho lair (1 Berwick Street) to celebrate the massive collection of his long-running Big Numbers which has been published by the good folks at Canada’s Drawn & Quarterly (one of our favourite comics publishers).
