SyFy’s Blastr posts up three pretty cool cartoon styled revamps of the original Star Wars posters for A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, all by artist Christopher Lee (no, not that Christopher Lee!). Fab.

“In 2009, thousands of Internet users were asked to remake “Star Wars: A New Hope” into a fan film, 15 seconds at a time. Contributors were allowed to recreate scenes from Star Wars however they wanted. Within just a few months SWU grew into a wild success. The creativity that poured into the project was unimaginable.”

We’ve seen pieces of the Star Wars Uncut project surfacing from time to time in the geek community and it looked like a pretty cool fan-film project inspired by one of the biggest movies of all time. Well now we get to see the entire film, over two hours of it, amazingly, uploaded by Casey Pugh, Aaron Valdez and many more. Quite clearly the Force was with them – and how funky are the lightsabres in place of the famous searlights in the 20th Century Fox Logo?!

Raiding the Lost Ark

Johnneyred points me to this fab video, the first seventeen minutes of Jamie Benning’s documentary – or filmumentary – one of the great cinematic adventure tales of all times, Raiders of the Lost Ark. Jamie previously brought us the Star Wars Begins docu-fan-film and is about to release a new one, Raiding the Lost Ark. From the description: “an in-depth insight into the making of the 1981 collaboration between Spielberg and Lucas. This fan made Filmumentary contains behind the scenes video, rare interviews with cast and crew, reconstructed deleted scenes and subtitled facts.” It looks and sounds superb:

The full version should be online later in December according to this post on Culture Deluxe, so we’ll stay tuned for that. Meantime, as well as checking the teaser above, why not further indulge your film geek with the whole (over 2 hours worth!) of Jamie’s Star Wars docu, Star Wars Begins:

This is satisfying on so many geek levels – the iconic Imperial March from John Williams’ Star Wars soundtrack but played on a couple of old floppy disc drives. Genuis. (thanks to Simon Moreton for the link)

Star Trek verus Star Wars according to Shatner

Star Wars or Star Trek, which is better and why? It’s an argument that’s surfaced in science fiction fandom many a time over the last few decades (personally I love both and consider them to be quite different types of SF&F so really don’t see much point in arguing over them like this other than for a bit of fun in the convention bar). But here BoingBoing has a link to a video from no less a luminary than the mighty William Shatner holding forth on the subject! Expect much arguments and for phasers to clash with lightsabres…

Darth Vader – Life after the Death Star

Here’s a bit of Star Wars fun to start off the working week, with this parody by Phil Enright and friends, looking at what a traumatised and down on his luck Darth Vader had to do to cope after Luke Skywalker blew up the Death Star in A New Hope. He had it all, feared, respected, awesome power, a giant moon-sized battle station, then he lost it all and had to find a way to intergrate into ‘normal’ society after losing it all! Made me smile!

The Dark Side is so cool!

The Dark Side may be the evil side of the Force, but we know they are also cooler – I mean instead of brown bathrobes the Dark Side guys wear cool black, they get to stay up later and they have the best music. And that cool Imperial March/Vader’s theme music by the mighty John Williams gets reworked here by Eclectic Method to oh so cool effect! (link via BoingBoing)

Existentialist Star Wars

This made me laugh – a French existentialist take on Star Wars, the French dialogue version of the film with subtitles altered to suit a film by ‘George Lucas and Jean-Paul Sartre’, it’s funny and also a good piss-take of some of the more self absorbed older French flicks (link via that man Matt Staggs):
