We’ve been bursting to tell you about these new action figures coming soon, but our lips were sealed close with a sonic screwdriver. Finally we can shout about them! Yes, its a set of figures from the Tennant-era finale The End of Time which we enjoyed in the UK over Christmas and New Year, with an injured David Tennant’s Doctor, Timothy Dalton’s imposing Time Lord in his robes, John Simm’s blonde Master and, yes, we’re all giddy with excitement, but yes, it’s true, here’s the very first Matt Smith Doctor Who action figure!!! I’m making some space on my desk right next to my David Tennant figure…

The BBC’s Press Office releases some more snippets on the upcoming final Doctor Who specials of 2010, the two-part The End of Time which sees the return of The Master, Donna and the demise of Tennant’s incarnation. From the description of part one “It’s the Tenth Doctor’s final journey – but his psychotic nemesis the Master has been reborn, on Christmas Eve. With both determined to cheat death, the battle ranges from the wastelands of London to the mysterious Immortality Gate, while the alien Ood warn of an even greater danger approaching, as a terrible shadow falls across the entire Universe.“. And on part two: “The Doctor faces the end of his life as the Master’s plans hurtle out of control. With the sound of drums growing louder, and an ancient trap closing around the Earth, the Doctor and Wilf must fight alone. New Who

Okay, how buzzed are we all from Doctor Who: the Waters of Mars? And the way they’ve worked in the knowledge that the Doctor know his time is ending into his decisions and actions (and my feeling was they also inferred the lack of a close companion has also cost him part of that human anchor that hold him to a certain code)? For North American readers who are looking on enviously Mike Lynch notes that BBC America has been running ads promising a trilogy of Doctor Who specials in December, so it looks like you won’t be too far behind the UK. And now I’m seriously champing at the bit for the final two-parter episode with the return of the Master and how Tennant’s incarnation meets his end. And Bernard Cribbins too! So what did we think of the Waters of Mars then, folks?
