That esteemed gentleman of letters and lettering, Todd Klein, continues his very tasty series of collaborations with the great and good of the comics world with a new limited edition signed print, this time with It Is, working with that splendid chap Dave Gibbons. I’ve treated myself to a couple of the prints Todd has been working on, they make great (and very affordable) artworks for your wall or as a cool gift; more details on Todd’s site here and you can order it here. Todd also tells us he will post up some more about the making of the print on his site in the next few days, but you’ve already bookmarked his site for the fascinating articles and insights he offers into the comics medium, haven’t you?

That fine gentleman of letters, Todd Klein, has a lovely new treat in his series of very attractive prints that he has been making in collaboration with some of the top creators he has worked with over the years. This time Todd is working with Shawn McManus, but this time it isn’t just a limited edition print, Go Freelance! is also something of a board game too, which outlines “the lives of two budding comics artists. It’s written, designed and lettered by Todd with over fifty wonderful spot illustrations by Shawn in a 1950s-advertising art style that’s sure to bring a smile.” The illustrations look great and the subject will raise a wry smile from a lot of comics folk, no doubt! And there may just be the oddly familiar face to be spotted in there too… I’ve treated myself to a couple of Todd’s previous prints and would recommend indulging yourselves (a fairly affordable treat at that), but be quick to grab one of the first run. Full details and more images on Todd’s site. You can read an interview by Pádraig with Todd here on the blog.

That fine gentleman of letters and lettering, Todd Klein, has unveiled a new collaboration with one of the medium’s finest, this time working with Steve Rude, with Steve’s art in the print, entitled Hope, depicting the mythological Pandora. As with previous collaborations each print will be signed and Todd will be selling them via his site (from June 1st onwards) and, as with the previous works, at a pretty damned decent price in my book. And I notice Todd is planning to donate $2 for each print sold to the American Red Cross so they can actually offer some Hope of their own – a nice touch. Well worth treating yourself to or buying as a nice present – I have a couple of Todd’s earlier print collaborations in my own collection and find myself thinking, can I make more wall space available for another…? Full details can be found on Todd’s site here. (link via Tom at Comic Reporter)

That man Pádraig Ó Méalóid has been asking questions once more, this time instead of one of his in-depth interviews he is asking one simple question to sixteen comics professionals (including Neil Gaiman, Todd Klein, David Lloyd, Bryan Talbot, Chris Staros, Dave McKean, Garen Ewing and others) “What’s your opinion of the term ‘Graphic Novel’?” Neil Gaiman’s response:

“It is at moments like this Pádraig, that we remember what Dr Johnson said on the subject:

As far as I can tell, GRAPHIC NOVEL was a term coined by YAHOOS specifically to pester, irritate and lykewise get the GANDER of MASTER EDDIE CAMPBELL, such that SMALL BOYS and STREET URCHINS are said to shout it at him in the street (Viz, Here Comes Master Campbell, Have you written or drawn another Graphic Novel today?). Persons of QUALITY do not utter it, preferring such terms as BIG COMICAL BOOK ALL BOUNDEN TOGETHER WITH A THICK SPINE or even A COLLEXION OF PAGES WITH PICTURES AND WORDS PRINTED IN SUCH A WAY THAT BOOKESHOPPES CAN SELL THEM TO THEIR PROFIT .”
